Overview

Mrs.Luxmi Kamalarupan is a Senior Lecturer (Grade 1) in Nursing. She completed the BSc(Nursing) degree at TamilNadu MGR Medical University, India and obtained her Master of Philosophy (MPhil) at University of Jaffna. She served as Head of the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Jaffna (from 2020-2026). She possesses 20 years of teaching experiences (from 1st March 2006 to till now) in educating the BSc(Honours) Nursing students. Her academic and research interest fields are Child Health Nursing, Maternity Nursing, Neurology, Geriatric nursing and Community Health Nursing. Nearly supervised 100 undergraduate nursing student researches and few postgraduate nursing researchers. She has publications in indexed journals, international conferences and local symposiums.

Also, contributed on curriculum development of BScHonours in Nursing, BScHonours in Physiotherapy and Human biology courses of Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, UOJ, Jaffna. Also engaged in outreach activities, mainly on educating the public, care givers and health care workers on nursing care for elderly, awareness on Drug abuse for adolescents. And involving in few Capacity building projects: European CAPAGE projects on geriatric care, BRAIN project of SingHealth on Neuroscience and working on Erasmus Plus CBHE grant on MILKFORLIF project. She got various training in foreign countries; such as, Research Training fellowship at India (3 months in 2014/15), Master trainer training on Neuroscience at SingHealth Hospital, Singapore (one week, 2024), observing the geriatric set up at Escola Superior de Saúde Santa Maria at Portugal (one week, 2024). Served as chairperson of Student welfare and Wellbeing committee and member in sub-committees of Faculty, Chairperson for the medical sciences section of Jaffna Science Association (JSA), and Chief editor for Newsletter of FAHS and 2nd International conference of Healthy Delights, FAHS.

  • BSc Honours degree in Nursing at The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University, India (2002)

  1. Resource person for the workshop on “Elderly care” for Health care workers at elder homes, conducted by District Secretariat, Jaffna, held on 19th of September 2025.
  2. One of the evaluators for Undergraduate Research Proposal Defense University of Ruhunu, which was held on 10th of October 2025
  3. Resource person for the workshop which was conducted by Department of Nursing on “Transforming Nursing Practice through Research” for Nursing officers of Teaching Hospital, Jaffna on 11th and 12th Sept 2025.
